Aluminum alloy product

With the growth of aluminum alloy products within the welding fabrication manufacture and industry, and its acceptance as an excellent alternative to steel for many applications, there are increasing requirements for those involved with developing aluminum alloy product projects to become more familiar with this group of materials. To fully understand aluminum, it is advisable to start by becoming acquainted with the aluminum identification / designation system, the many aluminum alloys products available and their characteristics. An Alloy is the resulting compound that is produced when other elements are added to aluminum. Aluminum alloy product supplier is one of the most versatile and cost effective engineering and construction materials available.

Aluminum alloy product

Commercial purity of aluminum is 99.5 to 99.79%, but pure aluminum is too soft to be of structural value. The primary reason for aluminum alloy product is to increase strength without significantly increasing weight. Other reasons are to improve machinability, forging, die-casting, casting, coating, finishing, plasma spray, thermal spray, weldability, surface appearance and corrosion resistance. Each alloy type has specific characteristics to match application. Aluminum alloy product performance is determined in part by the alloy composition and in part by the method of production. The manufacture or production method, in turn, strongly influences the final temper of the alloy, which is obtained through various types of mechanical and thermal treatments. The choice of alloy and temper significantly influences structural and certain physical properties of aluminum.

Temper Designation System

The temper designation system is used for all forms of wrought and cast aluminum and aluminum alloy product except ingot. It is based on the sequence of basic treatments used to produce various tempers. The temper designation follows the alloy designation with the two separated by a hyphen. Basic designations consist of a letter while subdivisions of those basic tempers, where required, are indicated by one or more digits following those letters. The system is designed to set down specific sequences of fabrication processes, but only those operations that are recognized as significantly influencing the characteristics of the product involved. Should some other variation of the same sequence of basic operations be applied to the same aluminum alloy product, resulting in different characteristics, the additional digits will be added to the numerical designation.
